City Visions Europe: Bordeaux, Košice, Mechelen, Plzeň je výskumno-dizajnový program zameriavajúci sa na urbánne podmienky štyroch európskych miest „strednej mierky“. Ponúka štruktúru pre výmenu medzi architektami a mestami pre vybudovanie, prezentovanie a diskutovanie špekulatívnych architektonických ideí o budúcnosti týchto miest rovnako ako o budúcnosti Európskeho mesta ako takého.
18-mesačný program City Visions Europe, prebiehajúci od jesene 2008 do jari 2010, je zameraný na úlohu architektonickej špekulácie v súvislosti s vývojom európskeho mesta. Má vyvolať verejnú diskusiu o budúcnosti štyroch rozdielnych európskych miest: Košice (Slovensko), Bordeaux (Francúzsko), Mechelen (Belgicko) a Plzeň (Česká republika). Všetky štyri mestá sú kandidátmi na Európske hlavné mesto kultúry.
S ohľadom na sklon ku generickej a globálnej architektúre pre generické a globálne mestá, City Visions Europe sa zameriava na špecifické otázky európskeho mesta. Osem vybraných architektonických praxí, pod vedením CARD/Berlage Institute, bude rozvíjať perspektívy pre štyri dotknuté mestá, zatiaľ čo prebieha séria workshopov s miestnymi a medzinárodnými expertami, politikmi a občanmi.
Tieto návrhy budú predložené odbornému publiku, ale aj širokej verejnosti, v priebehu série celomestských pouličných podujatí vo všetkých štyroch mestách na konci roka 2009. Nasledovať bude séria verejných prezentácií a diskusií za okrúhlym stolom zameraných na vyprovokovanie ako miestnej, tak i medzinárodnej diskusie o týchto mestách a o európskom meste všeobecne. Program bude realizovaný v spolupráci s Arc en rêve - centre d’architecture (Bordeaux, FR); Flemish Architecture Institute (Antwerp, BE); MMMechelen (Mechelen, BE); Centre for Central European Architecture (Prague, CZ).
City Visions Europe: Bordeaux, Kosice, Mechelen, Plzen is a design-research program focusing on the urban condition of four mid-scale European cities. It offers the framework for exchange between architects and cities to develop, present, and debate speculative architectural ideas on the future of these cities as well as the European city in general.
The 18-month program City Visions Europe, running from autumn 2008 to spring 2010, is focused on the role of architectural speculations in relation to evolution of the European city. It will provoke public debate on the future of four distinct European cities: Kosice (Slovakia), Bordeaux (France), Mechelen (Belgium), and Plzen (Czech Republic). All four cities have been candidates to become European Capital of Culture, a rotating title that highlights the cultural program of a European city during an entire year to stimulate the structural and sustainable development of the city.
In light of the tendency towards a generic and global architecture for generic and global cities, City Visions Europe focuses on the specific question of the European city. Eight architectural practices, under the direction of CARD's design research team, will develop perspectives for the four concerned cities, while exchanging with local and international experts, policy makers and citizens through a series of workshops.
These propositions will be presented to a professional audience, as well as the general public, during a series of citywide events in all four cities to take place at the end of 2009. This will be followed a series of public presentations and roundtable discussion aimed at provoking both a local and international debate about these cities and the European city in general. The program will be realized in collaboration with arc-en-rêve centre d'architecture in Bordeaux, France; the Flemish Architecture Institute in Antwerp, Belgium; MMMechelen vzw in Mechelen, Belgium; and the Centre for Central European Architecture in Prague, Czech Republic.
